What happened During the Ice Storm?

During the storm many LDC’s left services connected, even though they were damaged.

We observed many instances where masts were bent over, or pulled off the house, and we also saw meter bases and attachment points that were also pulled off of homes. Power still connected, even though repairs were needed.

Normally the LDC (Local Distribution Company) would disconnect immediately (usually pull your meter and cover and lock the opening at the meter base), at which time you (the homeowner) would require immediate repairs from a Certified Electrical Contractor.

However – Due to the severe and extensive damage caused by this “Ice Storm of the century,” and the extent of problems during this disaster, and the extreme cold temperatures, many damaged services were left connected, with caution tape around them, in order that homeowners would be able to stay in their homes with power and heat. This would never normally be allowed, but an exception was made due to this disaster.

Now that the grid is fully restored, and everyone has power again, the issue is ensuring that all electrical services are safe.

If you are one of the thousands of homeowners still affected in this way, and need your Electrical Service repaired, we can help.
