They use little glass fuses that screw into the panel. They are designed to limit the current that travels through the wires in your home.

When too much power or current is flowing through the circuit, the fuses blow. At that time they need to be replaced with a new one.

What is the problem with Fuse Panels and Why is that bad?

The main component of your fuse panel is called the bus and it’s where the fuses screw in to the panel. Now often we find when people go to replace their fuse in their home they unknowingly remove the old fuse and install an improperly sized one. Now the wire coming out of the panel is not protected at its rated capacity. There is a potential overheating risk leading to a fire.

There is also the mechanical design of an older panel. We sometimes find that behind the old fuses you’ll see burning on the bus. This can cause arcing another hazard.

Like a furnace or a car, older technology is not as safe and it often requires regular maintenance or replacing.

Changing to a Breaker Panel

If you think about it, there’s no reason not to change to a breaker panel. Breakers are easily reset. No messing around with fuses anymore, eliminating the risk and potentially over fusing your panel putting your home and it hazardous situation.

Upgraded breaker panels are now built to today’s high safety standards in Canada meaning you can add built-in components such as arc fault protection to prevent fires in your home, ground fault protection to prevent electrocution and surge protection for your home protecting your appliances and all your electronics.

Your electrical panel is the heart of your electrical system in your home. You’ll want to make sure that its always in safe and good working condition. Replacing with a breaker panel is the wise choice. Don’t wait for a problem to occur – in the middle of the night – no heat – or simply the inconvenience

Change it now and have the peace of mind knowing your home and more importantly your family is safe and secure.

Visit our Website for more information:

What are fuse panels?
